I’ve been mulling over the rise in virus attacks emanating from China recently (or so it seems to me), the pattern makes me wonder if they are learning and practicing how to initiate an electronic attack against a country, especially a country where business is heavily tied to technology. And then considering the recent stories of how China is involved in growing its military again, makes one wonder if they know something we should. It could be two totally independent actions, and it could be war-gaming on their side, similar to what we do, except they are actually attempting to infect computers which could then be turned against us.

If the Chinese did have nefarious plans, they could build a huge botnet of computers not only in the United States, but in other countries as well, that could be controlled even after we severed Internet links to that country. In the event they did want to initiate hostilities, a simple command to these tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions of computers, could bring down our networks, effectively killing our ability to continue business as usual in the face of a Chinese invasion of another country.

Just pondering, not positing.
